As guided by Isaiah 61:1-3 and Luke 4:18-19, WSHM’s purpose is to:
·            preach the gospel to the poor (in spirit)
·            heal the brokenhearted
·            preach deliverance to the captives
·            preach recovering of sight to the blind (in spirit)
·            proclaim liberty to them that are bruised and bound
·            preach the acceptable year of the Lord
·            preach the day of vengeance of God
·            comfort all that mourn
·            give beauty for ashes
·            give the oil of joy for mourning
·            give the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness
·            that listeners may become righteous
·            that God might be glorified
